Carnegie Mellon personnel are granted limited access to the facilities as soon as they have met with Chris Bowman to discuss their projects. They must be accompanied by a qualified user the entire time they are using the facilities until they have fulfilled the requirements for independent access. All qualified personnel must have completed
the "Process Inventory" and "Cleanroom Chemicals & Gases" forms; they must attend two classes offered by EH&S entitled "Laboratory Safety" and "Hazardous Waste"; and finally they must receive a tour of the facilities that reviews the Guidelines and highlights safety and housekeeping issues in the lab.
